Known as 'chicken of the woods' (Laetiporus) because of it's chickeny taste when eaten, this common fungus can be identified by its orange or yellow colouring. It forms in fan shapes on tree trunks during late summer through to October. It grows most commonly on the wounds of trees and will produce brown rot in it's host.
Ganoderma, also known as Lingzhi Mushroom is another form of bracket fungus. These types of fungus attack trees internally as well as presenting on the exterior. It's important to get this treated as soon as you notice it as it can lead to a tree coming down in high winds through being weakened by internal rot.
